Tracie’s Version

My, oh my! My first audio book and first Kristin Hannah book. Double wammmmmy!
It was love at first listen. This book will forever haunt me. I’ve decided I can’t listen to books like this on audible anymore though because I tuned my family out for 4 whole days because I couldn’t stop listening.

This tale about two sisters living in France through the 1940’s- WW2. After the first war had shaken up their childhood family dynamics, WW2 comes along to disrupt life as they know it.

The older sister Vivianne says goodbye to her husband as he is drafted to war, leaving her and her daughter out in the country to fend for themselves.

Isabelle, who just turned 18, leaves her boarding school to return to Paris in hopes to live with her father. Their strained relationship and the start of the war, send her to be with her sister. On the journey to her sisters home, she finds love.

In their own ways, both sisters become true hero’s as we follow their stories through great tragedy.

In love we find out who we want to be.

In war we find out who we are.

This book was everything to me. It was my first audiobook and I could not stop listening. I cried and then cried some more. It’s hands down my favorite book I have read in 2022 and maybe even of all time.

This story will be with me forever. I felt like I was there, with these sisters. I ached for them, I rooted for them and I cried with them.

Kristin Hannah is a beautiful writer. I have enjoyed all of her novels that I have read so far but this story was, in my opinion, the best.

What a masterpiece. I would recommend. I probably will recommend to anyone who will listen from here on.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
