Tracie’s Version
After reading a few thrillers back to back I was in the mood for something a little more calm and romantic. I picked up this Nicholas Sparks book. In High School he was one of my favorite authors and I was excited to see if he stood the test of time!
Although my reading preferences have changed drastically over the past decade, I still really enjoyed this book and his story telling writing style.
Trevor moves back to a sleeping little town in NC after a life altering accident during his service as a naval doctor and his grandfathers passing. His grandfathers last words to him were a riddle he was determined to solve.
There he meets two mysterious women who’s secrets will challenge and change him.
This book was fairly predictable and unlike Sparks prior novels, I did not find myself sobbing at the end. It was fairly happy through out which is just what I was looking for. It was lacking some drama and there was far too much talk about beekeeping.
There was room for improvement in character development. I wasn’t completely sold on any of the main characters.
I was happy to not have fully outgrown this author and am looking forward to picking up some of his more recent releases.
“Life endlessly offers us chances to set new directions and in the process we grow and change; when we look in the rearview mirror, we catch a glimpse of former selves who sometimes seem unrecognizable.”
