Tracie’s Review

STANDING OVATION FOR EVELYN HUGO. This book was everything I never knew I needed. The story telling of her life from the glamorous old Hollywood to the emotions I was left with in the end. I had a major book hangover after finishing.

It starts when a low level magazine writer, Monique, gets requested by the famous Evelyn Hugo for a feature story. When Monique goes to meet Evelyn, Evelyn confesses she is not interested in a feature in the magazine but she wants Monique to write her memoir.

Monique is stuck between a rock and a hard place and has no idea why Evelyn would seek her out for this job, but is more than excited to have the opportunity to tell the story of a lifetime.

While drinking coffee and snacking on sweets, Evelyn shares her story to stardom, a look into Hollywood through out multiple decades, and of course the juicy details of all 7 Husbands.

Evelyn unveils to Monique a forbidden love and a tragic connection into Monique’s own life.

I give it a 5/5 ⭐️’s but it deserves more! It was one of the best books I have read in a while. I took my time reading because I didn’t want it to end.

The way the author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, flashed back while keeping you aware of the presence was perfect. This book was just extraordinary. I am envious of those who get to read it for the first time.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVED this more than I can put into words right now.

“People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is ‘you’re safe with me’- that’s intimacy.”

I am very skeptical about the hype this book is getting but after Tracie said it deserves more than 5/5 I think I’m going to bump it up on my TBR list.
