This book was…. a very wild ride! It truly is one of those books that is “unputdownable”.

Please be warned that there are very graphic descriptions of violence in this book. Some of it took me really off guard and I felt like it was a bit unnecessary to take it to that extent.

The synopsis on GoodReads and on the back of the book are so misleading, I felt like I was reading a completely different book! The book basically encompasses one single day, but the description says things like, “Why don’t they join backyard barbecues? Why do they brush away offers to babysit?” but at no point in the book is there even talk of a barbecue or any general uneasiness about the family? The neighborhood has a good impression of the family, so I’m not sure why the back of the book makes it seem like they’re these neighborhood outcasts.

Anyways…

One hot morning, Gladys, the nosy neighbor, notices that Katherine didn’t take her children to school that day. She doesn’t sense something is wrong right away but something just doesn’t seem right either. Her husband Lou convinces her she’s overreacting.

The book switches between Gladys and Logan, a package delivery driver, who tries to deliver a package to Katherine’s home but she declined the package. Again, something just doesn’t seem right.

Gunshots are heard throughout the neighborhood later in the day and Gladys and Logan must join forces to save Katherine and her children.

The mystery was good, but I got extremely confused at the ending. I don’t want to give too much away, but when everything unfolds I had to re-read it several times because the story took a really sharp turn and I wasn’t sure I was understanding what had happened.

So, overall it was good because it was a page turner and I couldn’t stop reading, but also not that great because the ending just really threw me off!

I give this book a 3.4 out of 5 ⭐️!
