OMG, is it possible that my first book of 2022 can already be a contender for my Top 5 of the year?!

THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING.

The characters, the plot, the mystery, all the other little mysteries and backstories…. CHEF’S KISS 👩🏻‍🍳💋🤌🏻 I simply could not put this book down!

Lux McAllister is floating through life, when she starts to date a guy named Nico. She follows him to Hawaii and they decide they really want to travel the world together. Nico has a boat, but it definitely needs some expensive repairs. Enter Brittany and Amma – 2 friends who also want to travel the world together. When they offer Nico a fat paycheck to sail them to a beautiful, deserted island, he jumps at the opportunity! Though, Lux is a little skeptical (with good reason).

Needless to say, they’re on their way to Meroe Island! But when they get there, they find that another couple is already there. They decide to make the most of it, and they actually all get along (or do they..?).

About a week into their stay, another person shows up, which turns everything upside down.

We learn that everyone has dark secrets and has their own reasons for wanting to go on this trip.

I’m still not sure how I feel about the ending, which is the only reason this isn’t a solid 5/5 stars for me. I also will say, I did accurately predict part of the ending about halfway through (that never happens for me), but I don’t think that’s a bad thing!

SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU PLAN TO READ THIS BOOK: There is one thing that I’m confused about… and it’s a fast book so maybe I missed it. But, I need to know. If Amma and Brittany knew Chloe aka “Eliza” before going to Meroe Island, and Amma and Chloe didn’t really get along, why would Amma act as if it was normal that they were now calling Chloe, Eliza? Amma’s demeanor throughout the book was a little cold and it wasn’t like she was friendly towards Eliza, but if I were her, I’d be like, “Why are we calling Chloe by a different name?” All I’m saying is she should have knew something was up when they arrived to Meroe and saw “Eliza” there.

Yes!! My thoughts exactly. Loved this book but thought this was a loose end unless I also missed something? Any thoughts?
